My name is Cherae; I am a sophomore studying dance at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, making the choice to study dance as a profession at the age of seven. Dance is not just what I do, it is who I am. Through dance I am able to let go of my fears, approach challenges, and embrace change.
Dancing for various groups or activities from churches, to social service agencies, to poetry venues, I have been told that I am gifted with the ability to dance. Being unable to internalize that confidence, I have talked myself out of many auditions and opportunities thinking I was not ready or couldn’t compete skillfully. For the first time ever, I decided to audition for something outside of my comfort zone, The Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) in Los Angeles. Surprisingly, I was selected for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
The cost of this experience is $5,000 plus airfare. My parents are unable to financially support me in this but I know if I could just raise the cost of the experience, they will do the rest to get me there. Attending the Debbie Allen Dance Intensive will be a life changing opportunity for me.
I would greatly appreciate any amount of support you could give. No donation is too small as every dollar gets me closer to my goal of $5,000. If the world is a stage, then you are the audience.
