Elderly Parents Need Help

My parents will be married for 72 years this year. My father served in  the U.S. Navy during WW II. He worked for Bethlehem Steel as an accountant/manager and retired with a full pension and health benefits. When Bethlehem Steel declared bankruptcy, my father lost everything. His pension and his health benefits. My mother was a full time wife and mother so has no pension. They still live in the house they bought in the 1950s, however they exist solely Social Security. Most of that goes to property taxes which are very high in this state. My sister, brother-in-law and my husband and I - even our children - do everything we can for them but cannot always provide needs that are of great cost. Their air conditioning broke several years ago. They are roasting in this very hot summer! We have bought them some window units but they are not doing the trick. Also, my father still drives short distances. His car is extremely old and is literally falling apart inside and out. With the funds raised we will get central air installed in their home asap and purchase a small used car that will be safe for dad to drive a couple of miles for his paper every morning. They are our parents. They always made sure we had what we needed. It is very painful to watch them live this way. They did everything right and ended up like this. Not fair. Thank you for helping them.
