Support Underserved Girls Education

My commitment of action to help support the education of underserved or impoverished girls community in rural area of Nepal is ongoing. Out of $5000 that I had committed for the establishment of endowment fund, I have raised $2500 so far and still continuing. With the raised money, 10 underserved girls are being supported annually for their education.
Meanwhile, Nepal was struck by huge earthquakes in April 2015. Unfortunately, the Dumsijhang School, which the supported girls attended, was totally devastated by the earthquake. The only school in that area, when hit by earthquake, wasn’t in condition to run and hence kids were left to stay home and do household work. Therefore, I rather started raising fund to rebuild the school than for girls’ education because if there is school, there is education and if there is no school there is no education for anyone. With our campaign, my team and I raised $30000 to help support the earthquake victims including the families of the girls that I was supporting for their education. The most important achievement was that with the raised money, we were able to built three temporary learning center (TLC) for Dumsijhang school, which otherwise would have closed for unlimited time. So now the school is running under the TLC and all the girls I am supporting through my project and also the earthquake affected kids are happily attending the school.
After TLC was built, I started fund raising campaign for the girls’ education project. I was able to raise $2500 through e-media such as Facebook and personal communication. A lot of hurdles came and are coming on way to collect the fund such as hard time to convince people for donation, people wouldn't care either because the project was not in their place or it was not important to them, also earthquake was another hurdle. Survival of the kids and their family in Dumsijhang school area was more important to me than education, so I had to prioritize to help earthquake-affected people in that area than to raise money for the education project. However even in such difficulty, after the earthquake, I was able to supply education materials, uniforms and other items to the girls and other kids in the school. Currently, besides campaigning for fundraising, I have been asking my team in Nepal to determine the numbers of underserved girls and other earthquake-affected girls who are in need of support for the education in that area. Once the girls are identified, by the end of December 2015, my team will visit that school and distribute scholarship to them and provide school materials to all the scholarship recipient girls as well as kids being affected by earthquake. Since the Dumsijhang school and the kids studying in that school, in addition to being poor, are badly affected by the earthquake, I still need to work hard to provide support not only underserved girls but to many other kids.
