Support Canadian LGBTQ2IA Youth Mental Health

Donation protected
Did you know that LGBTQ2IA+ youth in Canada are significantly more at risk for depression, anxiety, suicide, self-harm, homelessness and school dropout than their cisgender and heterosexual peers?

Queer and trans youth make up more than a third of all homeless youth across the country, and are disproportionately represented in the foster care system. Those who are fortunate enough to live in stable housing may not have supportive families, and even those with both stable housing and supportive families may not have access to competent and affirming mental health services or adequate peer support.

Imagine feeling like there's something inherently wrong with you because you don't see yourself reflected in anyone around you. Perhaps you're told that being queer and trans is wrong, and that you don't deserve to live authentically, so you hide those parts of yourself, inevitably losing your most vibrant and beautiful parts.

Many LGBTQ2IA+ youth feel isolated and aren't able to connect with other queer/trans peers as they navigate their gender and sexuality, particularly those living in rural and remote communities.

Our Landing Place is a queer owned and run collective of LGBTQ2IA+ identified therapists providing competent and affirming inclusive mental health care to folks across Canada. We pride ourselves (pardon the pun!) on creating truly safe and knowledgeable spaces where clients can explore what it means to be who they are without judgment or fear of losing connection.

In fact, connection is the most important part of what we do, and we want to extend this to offer peer connection to queer and trans youth living across the country.

How do we want to do this? By offering free psychoeducation and emotionally supportive youth groups facilitated by our specialist team of incredible therapists. We want to run two online youth groups for LGBTQ2IA+ teens aged 12-18, with schedules to accommodate all time zones across the country, and a third group specifically for Indigenous teens. These groups will run for 12-weeks each, and will not only create a true sense of community for attendees, but will also provide them with tools and techniques to help them manage their mental health and conquer challenges that come their way.

That sounds great! How can I help?
There are 2 ways to help. You can donate directly to this GoFundMe campaign and you can book a Cameo with Jillian Harris, who has generously offered to donate funds from her June Cameos to help fund these youth groups in honour of Pride Month.
