Mental Health Charity Placement Abroad

Donation protected

Here is some info on the project that I am really excited to be a part of and some ways in which you can help!

What is it?
Mental health placement in Bali, Indonesia. It is a 4-week long placement commencing the 24th of August 2020 with the charity SLV Global Mental Health Fund (charity number 1175589).

What will I do?
Within this programme, I am working Monday-Friday with local communities in order to improve their mental health and encourage positive mental wellbeing. I will have completed my Bsc Undergraduate degree in psychology which means I can use this invaluable and unique experience to apply for a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy).

I will be working with other volunteers from around the world planning workshops involving things such as talking therapies, meditation, hypnotherapies and working alongside doctors.

Why am I doing this?
I am sincerely passionate about improving mental health and wellbeing through increased availability and quality of care. However, services currently are extremely underfunded resulting in dangerously limited availability. Therefore, this opportunity to improve mental wellbeing as a volunteer is something, I am incredibly passionate about. This not only benefits those that I am working with but also gives me a plethora of skills such as communication, creativity, leadership and team working which I can apply to my further studies.

Who am I helping?
Bali is an underfunded area of the world particularly within the field of psychology and healthcare, with ancient tradition sometimes hindering the progression of and a huge stigma surrounding those who struggle. The overall aim is to tackle this by improving individuals’ access to successful mental health support as well as promoting positive mental well-being for everyone at all times.

How much do I need? £3,150
This will be raised through my University of Leeds grant, my wages as a supervisor at a charity, local companies, savings since the start of university and donations from lovely friends and family!

The goal is set at £300 as this is roughly 10% of the final total

How can you help? :)
By giving a donation which you can afford
Just sharing the fundraiser :)
Sharing any ideas with me that you have for other fundraising ventures
Letting me know of any experience you have had working with vulnerable people which you think might be useful!

Thank you so much :)
