Memories with Marva

I don't even know where to start. Our mom went to sleep on July 11, and arose reunited with Our Heavenly Father as well as her dad, mom, and brother. The passing has been devastating, not just for the family surviving, but for the multitude of loved ones she called friend. There are not enough words to describe our kind and giving mother. She was absolutely fearless, strong, funny, nuturing, and supportive. She was our best friend, our nurse, our teacher and counselor. Her legacy of commitment to others, love, and loyal friendship will live forever in all of us. Her light was, and still is, so bright even while we mourn her passing. What she poured into us, her children, lives on in our own children and relationships. She was a mom to so many near and far. Her self discovery of a lump in June, testing in July, and confirmed diagnosis of breast and lung cancer on August 06, 2021 catapulted her onto a new and unknown path. She fought so hard, sacrificed her life's plan, and went all in to battle for her health and life this past year. Not all her days were bad ones, though. These final days she was in good spirits, remarking that she was finally feeling positive leaving her doctor's appointment. She was enjoying "virtual gardening" with me in North Carolina. We listened to music and watered sunflowers and elephant ears. Always in Mimi mode, she delighted in the newest addition, welcoming her 5th grandchild, second grandson, into the world on July 1st. From hockey mom life, her fried chicken, outrageous remarks…the fact that no one had better touch her purse! I can't wait for all of us to remember and relive Memories with Marva. All of us make up the family and community that absolutely loved her. Our mom's touch stretches across the United States and even into neighboring countries. That same family, community, and nearly worldwide touch has suffered a tragic loss, but she would not want us fussing over her. In an effort to honor one of her final requests, she will be cremated without the option of a viewing. We decided to start this fund to honor our mom. This is a way for family and friends to create meaning from loss. This fund will allow those who are grieving and want to show support, but aren't sure how, an opportunity. This is a central place for all of her loved ones to offer condolences, and come together to reflect on her. Donations towards her remaining cremation and cancer treatment costs, as well as photos and written memories and stories are all greatly appreciated. However with her birthday around the corner in August, we are planning a creative way to celebrate her from the different states we all reside.
