Memorial monument Janice Elliott
Donation protected
As you all know, my mother Janice Elliott passed away today, 8/20/2017. Janice had suffered for several years with heart problems and it finally took her life. Janice has asked us not to have a wake, viewing or a funeral. She will be cremated this week. As some of you may know, my mother worked at the Golden Gate Community Center for years until she retired. She was extremely passionate about the children in the area and keeping them on the right path. Hundreds, if not thousands of kids were influenced by her there over the years. She created programs such as Midnight Basketball to keep the at risk young men off the streets. She used to say “if I can keep them on the court, I can keep them out of the courts”. She wanted to ensure they stayed on the right path and out of trouble. She created another program called gangbusters. This was a summer camp program to make sure that children in the area that weren’t able to afford conventional summer camps in the area, could attend her free summer camp. She approached our county commissioners and was successful in getting some funding but at the time there was no facility. My mother didn’t let this stop her. She kept pushing forward. She traded her air conditioned, inside job for being outside in a local community park in the Florida heat all summer and she didn’t give up on her vision for the children. She did it for many years. It is our hope to raise enough funds that we may approach Collier County and have some sort or rememberance statue or plaque or bench placed at the Golden Gate Comminity Center to represent her legacy and her passion and dedication. Please donate anything that you can. Even if it’s a couple of dollars. My mother knew thousands of people. We can all chip in and make this happen and she can then be remembered and recognized forever. Thank-you so much and please, share this go fund me to your feeds. Let’s mKe it happen!!!
