Memorial marker for Susan Hardwick
Donation protected
Dr. Susan Hardwick was a friend, mentor, professor, teacher, scholar, geographer, mother, wife, and certainly much more to many people. Her passing in November of 2015 was a terrible loss for many people whose lives she touched.
For the part of her life that we knew her at the University of Oregon, Susan could be seen hurrying all over campus to meet and support students in whatever she could. She always had a moment to spare and certainly always a smile and a burst of enthusiasm and support. Even the smallest victories would evoke large celebrations. And Susan was always available to talk with students and offer support, from her ebullient encouragement to letters of recommendation, to putting in a good word with the right people.
As a small way to remember Susan and her legacy in geography and at the University of Oregon, we are looking to create a memorial space in her honor. Depending on funds raised, we will either have a plaque at the base of the GeogaTree (A lovely dogwood outside Condon planted by Geography Club in 2015) or a bench nearby.
We hope that this will create a space where people can go to remember Susan when they visit or work on campus, and reflect on her amazing legacy of enthusiastic support and her legacy as a geographer.
