Lila C. Wilson was a years-long friend and loved one to many of us in the Seattle dance music community, taken from us far too soon this week at age 38.  Lila was known for her ready smile that would light up a room, her fierce dancing, and as a warrior for those who needed help most, including migrant families and those in marginalized communities. She was a gorgeous soul, and so many of us are in shock with her passing.

Lila is survived by her 14-month old child and husband, and extended family. You can read about the heartbreaking story surrounding Lila's death here.

In light the terrible tragedy around her death,  we want to raise funds to help with any emergency expenses her husband and child may be experiencing, whether in terms of funeral arrangements, housing, or other living expenses.  Nothing can truly make up for this horrible loss, but we want to help relieve the financial burden for the family in this time of grief, especially in the crisis surrounding her death.

Thank you for your help.

Lila's husband Tom asked me to convey his thanks for everyone's financial help to him and their baby Sebi. This fund is helping to give Tom and Sebi a fresh start, given that they will need to find a new home soon and function as a single income family. The funding also helps the extended family take time off work to comfort each other. We're continuing to raise funds to ease some of the edges of this terrible transition.

Tom's extended family and friends had a memorial on Capitol Hill this past Saturday where they celebrated Lila's life and talked about the legacy she leaves for her loved ones here. There will be a dance event for Lila and family on July 18th at Rebar starting at 8pm where her friends from the dance music community will celebrate her life. Also, we are working on an annual benefit party for migrant families in Lila's name as well, to carry on her work and passion for helping people in need...stay tuned!
