Memorial Fund for Jake's Education

Donation protected
This fund was created to raise money in support of continuing the education of 9 year old Jake, in honor and memory of his mother, Brandy Souders.

On October 12, 2017, one day after a dinner celebration for his parent's 14th wedding anniversary, Jake woke up to find his mother unresponsive. Jake immediately dialed 911 and she was tranferred to the hospital. Brandy, 37, later passed away unexpectedly, without regaining consciousness, surrounded by her family, fellow nurses and friends.

Brandy was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and nurse. In Brandy's life, her family, especially Jake, came first. She served as his Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 203, Hershey. Brandy savored those moments she could throw on her sneakers, t-shirt and jeans and pack up her family, friends or troop to spend days outdoors or at the family cabin--telling stories, hiking, building fires, fishing and swimming. She captured the moments by creating beautiful photo collages and scrapbooks. When Brandy shared those memories, her eyes sparkled and her smile radiated warmth.

Brandy was also passionate about her work in helping others, especially children. She served as a Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Registered Nurse for 15 years and touched the lives of many patients and families. With her hands, she protected them from harm and delivered exceptional nursing care. With her mind, she shared her knowledge and reassurance they they could make sense of a world that had been turned completely upside down by pediatric cancer. From her heart, she shared her strength, her compassion and her belief in them. Brandy loved her job and went on to serve as President of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses (APHON).

We know Brandy was and is so proud of Jake for his bravery that day. We know Brandy's love for her son goes on. For now, he and his father, Eric, are coping as well as can be expected. There will be financial burdens and many changes in the months to come. Prior to her passing, Brandy's number one concern was Jake's health and education. To minimize the impact on his health and support his emotional well-being, we created this campaign to keep Jake at his current Christian school for the next few years. Our goal is to honor Brandy's lifetime of caring so selflessly for others by helping care for Jake when she cannot.

If you can help in any way, we greatly appreciate the support. Thank you! (We created this campaign but Eric is the beneificiary on Jake's behalf. We have zero access to this money.)
