Memorial for Vergel Guintu

Vergel Cortez Guintu devastatingly passed away on Friday, August 27. He was 48 years old.

Many remain saddened and in extreme disbelief of his sudden passing with no warning. Vergel was a wonderful and amazing husband and father. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Many people describe Vergel to be vibrant, kind, forgiving, passionate, patient, kindhearted, and most of all, SELFLESS. Vergel was a driven and goal-oriented individual that was full of life and dreams.

Vergel was a clinical instructor who touched and inspired the minds of nursing students by imparting knowledge through the gift of teaching. He initially taught students in the Philippines and most recently at Roseman University here in Las Vegas, Nevada. "A found calling of teaching the next generation of nurses and showing them compassion and caring for our patients" – Vergel (June 30, 2021).

He graduated, represented, and was a proud Don Bosco Alumni (Philippines).

As a nurse, he continued to inspire change and motivation as a staff and charge nurse in UMC's Cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVCU). "Vergel was compassionate and helpful. He was the charge nurse, staff nurse, IV nurse, MERT nurse, all rolled into one. He was so helpful, and he could never say no (to work) when they called him to help out in the CVCU" – D. Luy (Colleague). He was indeed helpful and extremely hardworking. He was looking forward to retiring from UMC.

Vergel lived life to the fullest and was very active, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and even at one point, he even tried jet skiing and off-roading. In addition, he loved outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and camping. But most of all, camping with his two boys.

Vergel's family was his rock, his life revolved around them, and he loved them very much. As a family, they enjoyed spending time and creating memories by taking simple mini-trips and even just eating out. He was thankful for the life he built and provided with his wife, of 22 years of marriage "Thankful, blissfully enjoying love and friendship with one another" – Vergel (June 30, 2021). He was proud of the life he built, and most of all he was very proud of his sons.

No words can describe our sadness and sorrow.

Let us remember Vergel's smile and warm presence as a memory.

Vergel's GREATNESS WILL never be forgotten as he touched the lives of many, not only by saving them. Let our love and memories for Vergel forever remain in our hearts.

At this time, the family would like to thank everyone for the prayers, outpouring of sympathy, and support that you have given them during this time of loss. Please continue to pray for them.
