Memorial concert David Ferre & Andre Tchaikowsky

How do you give back to a selfless person who never asked any recognition for himself? David Ferré spent half of his 78 years researching and promoting a forgotten and controversial musical genius named Andre Tchaikowsky (Andrzej Czajkowski). David was one of the moving forces that inspired others to rediscover and appreciate Andre’s music and talent. David spent tens of thousands of dollars of his own money traveling to interview relatives and friends of Andre which led to  writing a 500-page book and creating an amazingly extensive website as a resource to promote public awareness of Andre. David heard Andre Tchaikowsky play a concert at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, in the early 1980s. When Andre died in 1982, he bequeathed his skull to the Royal Shakespeare Company in England to be used in Hamlet. And they accepted, and did use his real skull, at least for a while. This unusual act caught David’s attention.

Selflessly working for 38 years because of his fascination and respect for Tchaikowsky, David made a difference in many lives. Others took up the cause, leading to books, movies, and world premiers of Andre’s works. 

David died unexpectedly from complications of heart surgery in August, 2020, a few days after his 78th birthday. Just as David brought a deserving artist to light, so do we want to recognize David for his pioneering work by holding a memorial at the Karlskrona International Piano Festival in Karlskrona, Sweden, on October 15, 2022, in the lovely performance venue at the Marine Museum. This will involve five or six musicians from various countries in Europe.
