Memoir Generator

Hi! I'm Christina, a Los Angeles-based writer. I was recently accepted into a 12-month memoir generator with the fabulous Anna Qu with Catapult. The total cost is $6,250, and they've thankfully awarded me $1,000, taking it to $5,250. (The additional money is for taxes and this platform's 5% fee.) However, this is a stretch for me, even with the scholarship and breaking it into monthly payments. The funds would go directly to paying for the program as I continue to work on this important book. Having yearlong support and community as I work on this project would be life-changing.

I'm working on a memoir about eating disorders, body image and trauma. In a society that still actively promotes harmful diet culture, this book explores the impact of anti-fat bias, the aftermath of sexual assault, and grappling with two cultures as the daughter of an immigrant from Chile.

I work as an adjunct instructor, and I am a caregiver for a disabled family member. My fiction manuscript, based on interviews with my grandmother about the 1973 military coup in Chile, won Honorable Mention with the Miami Book Fair 2023 Emerging Writer Fellowship. I was the Katharine Bakeless Nason Contributor Award Recipient in Nonfiction at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference in Vermont this summer where I studied with Melissa Febos.
