Melynda's Hope

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ~ James 1:27

This week, it came to my attention that I was not following scripture by taking care of a dear friend of mine who is a widow and helping her children who are orphans.  In speaking to her this week, I realized that I need to be the hands and feet of the church for her.

In 2018, her husband lost his battle with stomach cancer.  She had two small children and ran a T-shirt business out of their home.  Her daughter had an intellectual disability and she managed all of that on her own, while taking care of her husbands appointments and treatments until he passed.  Since his death, she has continued to try to keep her business running, while taking care of her children, managing a child with disabilities, and staying afloat on her bills.  Meanwhile, her daughter started having seizures and ended up getting diagnosed with epilepsy.  She has continued to manage all of these things while having to put aside grieving in order to continue taking care of everything.  Her mom is the only family that she has who regularly helps with childcare so she can go get groceries or other needed items.  However, with her children being home from school with Covid and her daughter not being able to focus on her school work like other children, it makes maintaining her business difficult without additional help.

Recently, she found out that as her daughter gets older, she will incur several thousands of dollars in legal fees in order to maintain guardianship of her as she transitions to adulthood and also needs to set up a trust to ensure that if anything ever happens to her, she is taken care of because the legalities of a child with disabilities differ than that of other children.  A regular will does not work in order to secure what happens to her daughter in the case of her death.

This Go Fund Me page will be used as an emergency fund to help her family with any bills, groceries, or legal fees that may arise over the next several years.  I plan to help her myself, but wanted to put this out there to see if others would like to come alongside her.

A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation. ~ Psalm 68:5
