Melvin’s Cancer Battle and fight to beat this disease. As many of you are aware Melvin was diagnosed with a rare form of stomach Cancer in July of 2017 for which he has fought very bravely but it has not been an easy road as Cancer of any form is not.

To help you get to know Melvin if you do not he is our brother, son and dear friend to many who has had to fight most of his life against one disease after another. The battle that started it all was diabetes which he was diagnosed with as a teenager and had a lot of problems along the way with it. As a result of the diabetes he was left with loss of site in one eye and ultimately kidney failure and many trips to the hospital for dialysis as well as dialysis from home and other side effects from this. It was determined that it would be best for him to have an organ transplant to give him not only a better life but help with some of the side effects from the kidney failure that in itself can be life threatening. As luck would have it a kidney and pancreas became available and was a match for him. He had the long and painful process of having not only one but two organs transplanted at one time. This was not only to save his life, but ultimately cure him of the diabetes, which it did. However, as a result anyone who undergoes a transplant will require anti-rejection medication for the rest of their life but this again was worth the risks or side effects as he would have a more normal as they say life.

We now come to more then 10 years later and he had been doing good overall still some health issues due to the fact that he was now left without an immune system but not really anything we couldn’t get through. However back in around May or so of 2017 he began to really not feel right with a lot more pain in his back to more noticeable stomach problems. All of this lead to a battery of tests which eventually in July resulted in the news that no one would ever want to hear which is Cancer. He has since begun a very painful fight to save his life from having a stint put in his stomach to help him eat to starting chemo as well as getting a G-Tube (feeding tube) put in to keep up his nutrients. Moving forward to December 2017 and the surgery to remove his stomach and the Cancer by doing a gastric bypass. The bypass surgery went well but the ultimate news from it was not what he or anyone wanted to hear - the Cancer had spread. He will at this point need to continue with chemo in hopes to give him a longer life and with all the luck in the world stop the Cancer from spreading any further.

This can only briefly touch on who Melvin is and what he is going through at this time. With that we are trying to help raise money for Melvin to pay medical expenses and get any supplies he needs for this treatment that as so many of you know these days are very expensive.

We sincerely appreciate you all who have and continue to support Melvin in this fight and any assistance you can provide to help with these costs.
