Melman's Recovery Vet Bill

In the early morning of Nov 3, 2017, Melman was attacked by two Coywolves (Coyote/Wolf hybrid) in our backyard. He bravely defended himself before being rescued moments later by his humans, Ava and Ollie. Though his efforts were valiant, Melman sustained multiple injuries including a fractured jaw (he took a good bite out of one of the beasts!), several puncture wounds, a cut to his nose, severe tissue damage around his neck (from being shaken) and a deep gash requiring stitches. He remains under the care of the highly regarded Beaches Veterinary Hospital where he is receiving IV fluids and strong antibiotics. His fractured jaw will require setting and to be wired shut.
Rescued from the streets of Los Cabos, our Mexican mutt is eight years old and has been with our family since he was one. He has four adoring human-siblings whom he checks in on before bed every night. Ava laid with him on the floor next to his bed for two hours after rescueing him. This event has broken their hearts. Our family would not be the same without him and even the few hours he's been gone have been hard.
Melman is a part of a very loving and involved dog community. We are fortunate to have a sprawling dog park as our front yard. It was important for us to share what happened to him in an effort to prevent a similar attack from occurring to our neighbours and furfriends. Within hours of telling our tale, we were presented with a care package of Apple pie, hot apple cider and a new stuffie toy from one of Melman's biggest fans.
As everyone with a pet knows, vet bills during an unexpected emergency can be outrageous.
Ours have already surpassed $1500 and we are only 12 hours in. While we have been able to cover these initial costs, news of his fractured jaw means this bill will at least double in the coming days as he undergoes treatment to repair the break.
Any donations we gratefully receive will be solely used to cover the cost of his recovery. We will be 100% transparent with all expenses. Should we surpass our goal, remaining funds will be donated in Melman's name to a local animal rescue foundation.
