Volunteer Trip to Guatemala

Hello everyone! I'm very excited for my trip to Xela, Guatemala
through the Pop Wuj Association. I've volunteered to go there for one month
(2/15-3/15) to help out with the families & various community development
projects. My goal is to raise $4000 so I
can afford the trip. I will be hosting a happy hour and other fundraisers to
bring in $1000 myself, but I need help in order to raise the additional $3000.
So what is Pop Wuj, you ask? The program has been around since the early 90's and they teach the volunteers Spanish while we help Xela in various ways. In addition to living with a family who will provide me with food and shelter, I will be participating in many projects to help the people of Xela. These include working in the Family Support Center with tutoring, meals, educational support, and extra-curricular activities. A large portion time is spent on the Safe Stove Project, so that families can have a safe indoor open fire for their cooking needs. There is also the Scholarship program "“ whose goal is to increase school enrollment beyond it's current rate of 58%. Other projects include the vegetable garden, recycling, and reforestation projects "“ so much to do in only a month!
This is where you come in... I need your help, so then I can help the families in Xela!! My calculations predict that this will cost me approximately $4000. This includes the registration, flight, bus ride to Xela, vaccinations, textbooks (to learn Español), and all the other things associated with traveling to another country. Every penny you donate will help me with this adventure, so then I can help the families in need. Thank you in advance for your support!!
I'm a licensed social worker and I've been working in the field for approximately eight years. Yet this is the first time I've had an exciting opportunity like this come up where I can help people in another country, travel, and learn Spanish all at once!
