Melissa - wife, mother, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, and friend - was such a positive force in all of our lives. Her sudden passing has left us all with an indelibly large hole in our hearts that can only be filled with the loving and bright memories we possess.
As everyone who knew and loved her is aware, Melissa radiated joy, beauty, intelligence and light - and she showed much of this through her love of gardening, plants and flowers. In honor of Melissa's life and her great love of beauty, her family is raising money in her honor for two organizations that were dear to her heart:
1) A Memorial Bench at the Como Park Conservatory
A bench will be selected and dedicated to Melissa at one of her most cherished places on earth, the Como Park Conservatory in St. Paul. We invite all family and friends to visit the bench and remember her while gazing at the flowers, plants, trees, and building where she spent so many amazing days with her loved ones.
2) A Scholarship Fund or Donation to the MN Landscape Arboretum
All monies in excess of those raised for the Como Bench will be directed towards either a donation, memorial tree or scholarship fund (Clare is currently researching these options) at the MN Landscape Arboretum, another of Melissa's favorite places.
Although there are thousands of things - memories, sights, flowers, birds, trees, items of clothing, or just simply some quirky awesome knick-knack that will remind us of her in the years to come - these memorial dedications will allow Melissa's family and friends to have specific destinations where they can spend time in honoring her memory. All donations will be processed through Wings Financial Credit Union and will be managed by her daughter Clare.
A memorial service to honor her extraordinary life will take place this summer in Red Wing, and we will be sure to get the word out to everyone who may wish to attend.
