Melissa Rich Kennedy's Colectomy

"I met Melissa on a support group for women with Ulcerative Colitis undergoing Colectomy's. We instantly bonded. We exchanged stories & dreams of how life would be after our surgeries. She wanted so badly to come to Texas and ride horses & I would make my way to see her in Canada!
Melissa & I started talking to each other daily. We would cry together, laugh together, be angry together- we knew exactly how each other felt going through such a tragic life event. We were scheduled for our surgeries very close to each other. As I continued on with my surgeries Melissa fell extremely ill.
After her first surgery she had several complications which ultimately lead to postponing her next steps. She has been in & out of hospitals for the last 8 months. She currently has an ileostomy bag, but is experiencing twists & blockages. (I have experienced ONE blockage with my J-pouch & it is WORSE than labor pain!)
Melissa's blockage is called an SMA syndrome which is very rare. She had internal bleeding after surgery for her SMA and was rushed to the OR where she received 6 blood transfusions. She can barely keep anything down even with her NG tube. She's losing hope, but remaining the strong warrior God made her. She has not been able to work for 3 years. Melissa's husband has been working day & night to provide for them while taking care of her. Melissa still has 2 major surgeries to undergo!
She wants you to know The funds will go towards traveling to many doctor appointments out of town, surgeries and hotels for her and her family out of town during those times, medical ostomy supplies each month that are very costly, little or no income as the insurance keeps dropping her claim giving a hard time making her fight each month, also paying now 100 percent payments for benefits, and also medications that aren't covered.
My heart hurts for her every day. I feel helpless with her being so far from me so I decided to do what I can to help her little family
