Melissa & Scott’s Medical Relief
On Friday, July 10th Scott called saying he was really feeling sick—throwing up, really sleepy, and his body was very achy.
Saturday morning, he calling Melissa to tell her he woke up that morning unable to breathe so he had to call 911. The ambulance came and took him to ER. They were treating him as if he had covid, but after testing him twice they realized he didn't. They did find out his blood sugar was over 800. (Normal range is between 70 and 120. Anything 600 and over is coma state.) He was very sick and very lucky to still be alert and alive, according to the nurse.
Scott is an over the road trucker and was 7 hours away from home when this happened., so Melissa felt helpless and all she could do was pray. They have no medical insurance and his health and job were both on the line, and on top of that, several days in ICU will result in astronomical bills.
Scott was in ICU for 3 days before they could move him into a regular room. He stayed there until Friday July 17th when Melissa and her daughter drove all the way there to get him, about 19 hours straight.
Scott’s job doesn't offer insurance and Melissa is a stay at home Mom. She has her own health issues, so she is unable to work outside of the home, but sells Paparazzi jewelry from home to help as much as she can.
Ultimately, Scott found out he has type 2 diabetes, had ketoacisosis, and lost his job. He will be unable to return to work until they can regulate his sugars. That process could take quite awhile, and he could possibly be off of work for a few months.
It’s difficult to ask for help, but Melissa and Scott could definitely use some assistance getting through this difficult time. Any gifts of love and prayers are truly appreciated.
