About 6 years ago, I met a beautiful soul named Melinda Bond (yes, like 007). We became friends quickly and she has become like a sister to me. Hell, much more than a sister considering my familial reference point. I've seen Melinda grow and challenge herself so much over these 6 years. I've also seen her face great adversity and pain.

About 5 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought aggressively with a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Then last year she preventatively had a hysterectomy since her chances of other related cancers were so high due to her genetic markers. We thought now, after 6 surgeries and 5 years, that she was in the clear.

Until the last few weeks when she got really sick again. She thought it was just a cold. After 3 weeks of being exhausted and finally struggling to breath at times, she went to the doctor. She was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia). The cancer is in her blood this time. She is beginning agressive treatment tomorrow with 8 rounds of chemotherapy, with possible bone marrow transplants down the line. She is in decent spirits considering what she's going through, still cracking jokes with the nurses and laughing as I make funny designs with my ugly yellow gowns.

This girl had a tough childhood and raised a beautiful daughter all on her own. She does so much for others and rarely asks for support for herself. She supports kids at the Children's Hospital where she works and at the foster home where she spent some of her childhood years. She has rescued many pets from shelters when they needed a home. She has been there for me and my family when we needed it, and now I'd like to help her. I love this girl with all my heart.

Ways that you can help:
1 - Financial, we're raising $15,000 for Melinda's past and future medical bills and living expenses while she's not working, probably for about 4 months to supplement disability.
2 - Love and support. There are many additional ways to help there, please contact Melinda's Care Navigation coordinator (me) for more information (packing, visits, cards, games, etc).
3 - Donate blood at your local Bonfils center. This won't go directly to Melinda, but she will be receiving a lot of blood during her treatment, so this helps to replenish the blood bank.
