Alongside our cultural events, each year we support a cause that is close to our heart and this summer, inspired by singer Selma Uamusse, we are aiming to raise €50,000 to help the people of Mozambiquewhose lives were devastated by Cyclone Idai. According to Time magazine, Mozambique needs $3.2billion to rebuild after the deadly storm, which was one of the worst tropical cyclones on record.
Selma is on the ground in Mozambique this week. “The immediate need for food supplies has diminished but the rebuilding effort is only just starting,” she says. “We are focusing on projects that work with local communities to reconstruct hospitals, homes and schools and in funding education projects that empower local people to rebuild their future and improve their lives.”
Help us with our fundraising and you could win Movement, a triptych by Tony Cassanelli.
Movement, by Tony Cassanelli, is the result of live painting during the Selma Uamusse's performance at the opening of our art pavilion. The work is based on Selma’s beautiful voice and the rhythm of the choir and reflects “a real meeting between music and visual art in the presence of an enthusiastic and participatory audience,” says Tony.
“The subject is the dynamics of a movement that is ruthless but vital; tragic and transcendent; but above all purely human and emotional,” he explains. “The work talks about life, death, birth, tenderness and the ability of human beings to respond with hope, dignity and fortitude in face of a tragic event such as Cyclone Idai.”
Donate now to help the people of Mozambique and the highest donation will win Tony Cassanelli's Movement. All proceeds go toward assisting the rebuilding effort in Mozambique.
