Meleah’s Miracle

Meleah, my cousin, age 23, was recently diagnosed with a very serious form of breast cancer. Upon further studies, diagnostics, and biopsies, her physicians discovered sarcoma in her right humerus. Since she has two different types of cancer, treatment is more complicated and will require two different treatments.

Her exact diagnosis is bilateral ductal carcinoma and it has spread to the axilla on the left side. She also has sarcoma in her right humerus. They’re planning to do 3 more rounds of chemo every 3 weeks. Then, she will have surgery on the arm to take out bone and place a rod. Then, 6 weeks later, she will have a bilateral mastectomy and finish with more chemo, every 3 weeks to treat the breast cancer.

She began her first round of chemo and has already been hospitalized and required a blood transfusion. She lives in Nacogdoches, TX, but her treatment is in Houston, TX, at MD Anderson, which is 5 hours round trip from home. She has two young daughters. She is unable to work and has a very long road ahead of her.

She overcame Osetosarcoma in her leg when she was younger. Then, she suffered the loss of a sibling from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2013. Meleah is a nurturer and always there for others. I want to be there for her during this difficult time.
