Melanie and Jon need housing help!

Hi, my name is Megan Adam and I'm fundraising for Melanie Jeffs and Jonathan Teague - two salt-of-the-earth people who are always ready to pitch in, help out, and support others in their lives. To those who know them, Mel and Jon count as the most rock-solid friends you could have.

As many of you know, Mel and Jon have been planning to move to Vancouver Island for some time, and recently took possession of a house that Mel has owned for several years in Sayward.

Imagine their surprise when they arrived on September 1st to discover that the home and surroundings were trashed -- literally, full of garbage. Every surface is covered in hazardous grime and mold. There is a lot of damage from both wild rodents and domestic animals. There is currently no way to heat the house, no usable kitchen, and only the bare minimum of bathroom facilities. I don't want to go on about it - but it's intense and will require months of restoration work to make the home livable again.

By the time Mel and Jon discovered the state of the home they were moving to, they had given notice for their place in Vancouver, leaving them stuck with nowhere else to go. Since then, with the help of friends and family, they have done what they can to clean up and create a usable room or two. It's impressive what has been accomplished in a short period of time!

But with winter rains coming to the North Island soon, they need help pronto - either to hire more hands for the work or to find a place to live while they get the house into habitable shape.

I set up this GoFundMe so that the people who love Mel and Jon can help them in this challenging time. While offers of physical labour are welcome (contact Mel and she will put you to work), many of us cannot make the trip to Sayward or don't have the skills needed. Cash is tight due to this unexpected situation, and financial help would go a long way to allowing our friends to explore their options and hire help along the way.
