Hi Friends,
Some of you may or may not have known that our friend Melinda Ho is currently in critical condition and has been on life support (ventilator) due to necrotizing pneumonia, a rare complication of bacterial pneumonia. It has nothing to do with the coronavirus and it is a mystery to how this came about.
Melinda has been in the hospital since June 11, 2020. Her condition continued to worsen despite being on antibiotics and due to worsening respiratory distress, had to be intubated and on a ventilator since July 5, 2020. She had been getting progressively worse and the doctors had said her chances of recovery were bleak, only 5% chance of survival. However, with a friend's extensive research and persistence, she has recently been moved to another hospital and has been put on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). With this new team of doctors at the new hospital and with this new 'miracle machine' her chances of survival have increased as long as there are no further complications. The new doctor's feel that they have a 50/50 chance of saving her right lung and even higher chances for the left lung.
If you have ever experienced the force of Mel, you would know that she's a great friend who goes out of her way to help others. She's funny, kind, thoughtful and always has a way of speaking her mind and telling you the way it is. She is also very stubborn and we know she will fight to recover from this so she can get back to doing what she loves, swinging her golf club on the green. At this time, we do not know when she will recover from this as they are still working to find the cause of the infection. It is unknown what she will be like after she recovers and how long her road to recovery will be.
We are trying to raise funds to help her family pay for her living expenses while she fights this illness in the hospital. We will be withdrawing the funds collected here into an account that will be used to pay her expenses. When she is released from the hospital, the funds collected will be transferred to Melinda's bank to help support her during her long road to recovery.
