Meighan ~ Serving in London

Donation protected
Meighan is headed to London!  Many have asked us how we feel (as her parents) about her decision to spend a GAP year in London. We are so excited for her and know this is exactly where she is to go. It is our hearts' desire that she spends her life going and doing and living her life for the Lord. Watching her interest peak when she heard about the opportunities that come with a GAP year and then to see her excitement grow as she discovered God's plan for this next year has been a highlight of parenthood. We can honestly say, God has given her a heart for the people of London. Meighan has a picture hanging in her room and the inscription on the photo says, "I'm in love with cities and people I have never met".  This is true of Meighan and her love for the people of London. God has given her direction and is establishing her steps and will provide the support needed.  The following letter is from Meighan:

With high school now completed, there is a question I ask myself, “What is my next step?”
I learned about a Gap Year in the beginning of high school, but never considered it for myself, because I’ve always had the “I have to go to college,” mindset. Once my Senior year arrived, I needed to answer the question, “What is my next step?”
For now, the answer is not “going to college,” even though I have been accepted into Liberty University,  University of West Georgia, Georgia College and State University, and a program for Auburn University. Yet, even being accepted into these amazing schools, I did not have peace to say “yes” to college.
In October, 2016, my parents mentioned the idea of a Gap Year. As I learned more about a Gap year, my eyes were opened to different opportunities I had never considered: living in a different country, volunteering, meeting new people, and traveling. I was challenged with the decision of college or a gap year.
By December, I knew my answer and had direction after much prayer and many conversations with family and close friends. I chose to take a Gap Year! Once I chose a Gap Year, I then needed to know where I was going. London became my focus, and I wanted to take a Gap Year doing mission work. Therefore, I started researching Gap Year Programs in London, England, and learned about the London City Mission. This grabbed my attention! When I found the London City Mission website,  I then asked my home church, Southside Baptist Church, in Warner Robins, GA if they partnered with any missionaries in London and learned about Southside Baptist, Westbrook. My parents and I spoke with the pastor at the church concerning the London City Mission, and were reassured that the London City Mission is a reliable and safe program. I began the application progress and excitement built throughout each of my 5 skype meetings. Two of those meetings were interviews. Being accepted as a Gap Student was the best day!
LCM is a program filled with about 30 different types of ministry opportunities. I will be volunteering two days a week in a primary school helping with Bible lessons and assemblies. I will also attend a Bible class, taught by missionaries, one day a week. The class will help me grow my knowledge of God’s Word. Two days a week I will be at Husk Coffee and Creative Space. It is a nice building set up as a coffee shop. Each night is filled with different activities. The activities vary from mic night, small groups, pool (table) night, movie nights, and much more. Husk Coffee and Creative Space is a safe and comfortable environment that is open to all the community. When people come, and visit HC&CS, they can see the light of Christ being shown through the workers. God is not only sending me to London, but He is putting me in a coffee shop! On Saturdays, I will be able to have free time and spend it exploring London. On Sundays, I will be able to attend church and have the day to relax. I hope to attend Southside Baptist, Westbrook.
As you well know, a Gap Year overseas requires much support. First, I would like to mention my personal needs and prayer requests: 1. Travel safety, 2. Safety as I live in London, 3. I can connect and make great, uplifting friendships while I am there, 4. Please pray that my relationship with Christ becomes stronger, 5. Strength every day to complete my jobs I am given, and 6. Please pray that I grow and mature into the person God wants me to be.
I also need financial support for my Gap Year. The expenses include: air fare, the program expenses throughout the year, which includes my room and board, and other fees as I live there. My anticipated expenses for this opportunity is $8,000. I know the Lord will provide. I trust in Him and His plan.
