Meghan's Medical DTS

Hello! First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to hear more about how I will be entering the mission field for 6 months starting October 22nd. I think this is the most important thing I’ve done so far in my life, and expect what I learn to also have a lifelong affect. Therefore, I am excited to share more about it with my community ask for your partnership!

I will be operating out of a base in Townsville, AUS where I will join the Medical Discipleship Training School (DTS) to serve the medical needs of the people of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The DTS is run by the interdenominational non-profit Christian organization Youth With A Mission (YWAM), which provides training on base so our team can provide the best aid possible through rural health clinics and community development projects. Training and outreach will occur both onshore in Townsville and aboard YWAM’s Medical Ships, which are equipped to provide medical care to PNG and navigate around the island to access the many remote rural areas there that have significant health challenges. These communities are very isolated, often making it difficult to deliver healthcare, but with YWAM's Medical Ship we can provide health services, supplies, and support. In PNG 5 women die in childbirth every day and 1 in 13 children die before the age of 5, so these are just a couple areas of need we will target through midwifery and pediatric care.


YWAM's purpose is to “know God and to make Him known” with goals of caring, connecting, serving, and building with individuals and communities.  YWAM offer mission opportunities worldwide, and I will be at their base in Townsville because it focuses primarily on reaching YWAM’s goals through three areas: Training, Medical Ships, and Youth Initiatives. I know that immediately after graduation there are several paths I could have taken. I could have gotten a job, pursued grad school right away, or done any mission trip with any of the hundreds of mission organizations worldwide. But I chose to do this specifically. I have felt called to mission work these past few years, but thought that meant that I wouldn’t be able to use my passion for science and biochemistry degree. However, as I was explaining this predicament to someone, they told me about this program through YWAM where I can use my passion and skills in mission work. I immediately felt that this is what I was supposed to do, and through prayer I knew for sure that this is what God has been leading me towards. I know I will experience deep spiritual growth and I have always held deep interest in the medical field, so I am excited to make His name known through this.

Why do I need your partnership? First and foremost, I ask for prayer for me, my cohort, the people we are reaching out to, and any obstacles the team may incur. I would also like to invite you to partner in ministry with me in a financial way. I need to raise $9,019 to cover costs of training, outreach, accommodations, transport, and medical supplies. I have a little over $2,000 more to fundraise!! I hope that you will help equip me for what I anticipate will be a life-changing experience for me and the community.
