Meg's IREF Mission

A little over a year ago during a conversation with a close friend, I shared my strong desire to utilize my experience and knowledge as an ER nurse to help vulnerable populations in underserved communities. It was during this conversation that I first learned about an organization called IREF, the India Rural Evangelical Fellowship. IREF is an incredible non-profit organization whose mission is break the cycle of poverty in Southern India. In addition to providing an excellent education to students from kindergarten through college, IREF also provides its students with housing, clothing and food. All of this is made possible through generous donations and child sponsorships, along with the many people who volunteer their time and talents to support the efforts of this organization in Repalle, India.

This January 2020, I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve alongside a team of medical professionals providing healthcare on the IREF campus and surrounding villages of rural Repalle. Following the medical trip, I will be staying on campus for several more weeks to continue building relationships with the students and staff, participate in daily activities, and help mentor students at IREF’s nursing school.

As a volunteer, I am responsible for the total cost of my trip, which is $3,500. This includes flights, transportation, meals and lodging.
