Dear Friends and Family,
In March, I went on a research expedition to Belize with a company called MedicForce. The trip was amazing. The Belizean people are kind, hard working and humble. They live in beautiful harmony with the wildness of their jungle.
However, the research that was conducted by MedicForce, a non-profit organization dedicated to the implementation of health and education had a challenge. The Belizean school system is in English, and as such the young children entering school for the first time have to learn English while keeping up with class material. Subsequently, many children are unable to progress in school.
MedicForce was started based on the idea of sustainability. Give one a fish, and one has food for a day. Teach one how to fish, and one can feed himself for life. This problem is complex. It will not be solved easily, but we believe, with passion and a little bit of money, MedicForce can make a difference. The idea is rather simplistic in nature; establish a Sunday school program that exposes young children to English at an early age. Villagers have church twice a week. A preliminary questionnaire has informed us that young children are often left to play outside. Healthcare workers, trained by MedicForce are already established in many villages. These workers could be trained to run this program. This idea has potential, but it requires more work.
I have volunteered to travel to these villages and obtain necessary information that will be vital to the success of this initiative. Our initial questionnaire has revealed that villages would welcome this program. One of my jobs will be to travel to villages south of Belize City to formally ask if villagers would welcome this program. My trip will also entail a research survey that will give MedicForce the necessary data to further this project.
This idea is ambitious, but I believe my aid can have a real impact for the people of Belize. Thus, I kindly ask for you to make a small donation to this cause. The funds raised will be used to fund my initial trip. The smallest donation will make the greatest of impact.
