Medical Mission Trip to Guatemala

The Family Medicine Residents in Manchester CT would like to raise money to help a public hospital located in San Marcos, Guatamela. We are in the process of starting a Global Health Track with the overall goal to eliminate cultural miscommunication, enrich resident experience, and recognize causes of subpar care and work towards their resolution.

Our goal is to raise money to bring much needed medical supplies to the hospital as well as to revamp their Emergency Acute Cardiac Care Room where their critical patients are handled. We would like to provide better equipment so as to direclty help change and save lives.  We will be working directly with OSSA who have been doing great work here for 5 years!

We will also be going down in February to work directly with the residents at the hospital to teach proper hygeine techniques. Currently the sheets, towels and such are not washed on a daily basis due to antiquated equipment. On this front OSSA has just bought them a new industrial washer and dryer to help facilitate this, however more equipment is still needed. Our goal is  to partner with OSSA to educate and respectfully introduce new techniques to prevent infections at the hospital.

We will be bringing supplies such as hand sanitizers and proper cleaning equipment to enchance the care the patients are recieving. We also want to attempt to host some of the residents from Guatamela to come see our hospital here and see what they can take back with them with respects to innovative ideas and techniques.

This is something the residents at Manchester, CT want to do on a continuous basis to continue to work with the hospital. We do not want this to be a one time feel good action, but a sustainable and dependable change that will continue to improve patient morbidity and mortality. Please note that we are using a 501C3 non profit organization OSSA and all donations are tax deducitble! Furthermore 100% of the funds are going towards medical supplies !
