Medical/Living Expenses for Sherril

Imagine...being told your son has a brain tumor.
Then, imagine being told that the doctors want to monitor it because the surgery to remove it would be too risky. Fast forward a few years (and many MRI’s and scans later) and imagine getting a call that your son (now 19) had a seizure while visiting a friend out of town, and is in the hospital. He’s never had a seizure before, he’s out of state, and because of your own health issues that severely limit your ability to drive, you can’t rush to his side and be there for him. He’s scared and alone, with no idea what happened to him and why. Now, imagine that your other son has been diagnosed with an unidentified infection for which no cause can be determined and for which current and dangerous treatments aren’t working. It’s painful, severe and limiting his ability to function normally. And now, imagine that you have absolutely no family that you can lean on for support…moral, financial, emotional, or otherwise. If you’ve really imagined this situation, I’m sure that you can imagine the type of fear, anxiety, desperation, and helplessness you would feel. Unfortunately, this is real-life for our friend and co-worker, Sherril.

Let us tell you about Sherril. Sherril is a single-mom who has always worked hard to provide a good, stable home for her sons, without much support. She has always impressed upon them the importance of education, and because of that, both of her sons are hard-working college students, striving to create bright, productive futures for themselves. Because of their current severe medical issues, it’s highly unlikely that either of them will be able to go back to school in a couple short weeks. Sherril has never, and wouldn’t ever, ask for support herself. That’s why we are writing this on her behalf and asking for your help. Sherril is facing a number of her own personal health issues, which she’s placed on the back burner for now, in order to focus on the needs of her boys. She’s currently awaiting word from the doctors on whether her 19 year old will have to finally undergo that brain surgery that, years ago, was so risky that the doctors wanted to wait as long as possible. And as if that wasn’t enough, she’s also awaiting the results on the latest round of testing for her 21 year old, to see if a cause can be determined, and what the next course of treatment may be for his worsening infection.

The medical bills are piling up, and Sherril has depleted her savings. The simple things that many of us take for granted everyday, like a roof over our heads, food to eat, and even just basic health, are all in jeopardy for her and her sons at this point.

We’d like to humbly ask you to help, with a donation in any amount, to help support our friend/co-worker and her sons. Sherril is a constant source of positivity, encouragement and support to others. She never asks for help, has always (and continues to) work hard to try and provide for her family, and just needs some additional support at this time. Please, help her to know that she’s not alone.

We’d like to thank you for your consideration.
