Medical Fund for Jefferson (Jr)

Donation protected
First and foremost, Jefferson and his family needs prayer. Please keep them lifted high.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Many of you know him as either Jefferson (or Junior). On Tuesday, September 5, 2017 Jefferson took a horrific fall to the ground from approximately 30 feet up in a tree. He was transported via Medivac helicopter to Grand Strand Regional and has remained in ICU since his arrival. He was placed in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator, due to the fall. Because of his neck being broken, he had surgery on September 7 in which the doctors had to place hardware on the front and back of his C4 and C5. He did well through the surgery and has been brought out the medical coma. To date, he has only very limited motion with his left arm. He can try and mouth words and has to blow on a tube to signal the nurse if he needs assistance.  On September 13 he received a tracheotomy where his ventilator is now helping him breath through the hole (stoma) in his neck. They also placed a feeding tube in his side so he no longer has tubes going down his throat and in his nose.

WHY IS MONEY NEEDED?

With this unforeseen accident and him not able to bring income into the household, it has placed a very heavy financial burden on his family. His wife Jackie is out of work a few weeks (due to her surgery) and is now trying to balance being at the hospital, continuing to take care of the 3 grandchildren they're raising (ages 9, 12 & 13), get all the necessary paperwork rolling, and the list goes on and on. Jefferson's income and extra work helped support this household by paying for a roof over their heads and other basic bills. They are now faced with an array of medical expenses for a long time to come. In addition to a large deductible, the biggest obstacle they're facing right now is getting him to Shepherd Center in Atlanta (specializes in spinal cord injury and they do have a bed for him NOW) where the cost of transporting him there is possibly falling on them. This could be several thousand dollars as he will have to be air lifted as long as he remains on the ventilator. Coming home, he will have to have someone with him 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when he comes home from rehab. The average pay to have someone there with him starts at $20 an hour and he may possibly need 2 people there to care for him if he's still on the ventilator. If it works out for Shepherd to take him, he's looking at 2+months there before he can return home. Jackie will have to travel there for training before he can come home.

DONATIONS ARE NEEDED IMMEDIATELY...WHAT'S THE URGENCY?

A discharge plan HAS to be submitted to the representative from Shepherd Center BEFORE they will accept him and part of that plan includes showing there are funds to help take care of him when he arrives home. Hopes are to get him there ASAP but funds are an obstacle right now.

WHAT WILL MY DONATION GO TOWARDS?

*Getting him to Shepherd Center for rehabilitation

*Securing a slot at Shepherd Center for him by showing there are funds      in place for his discharge plan

*Having money available to help with medical equipment and expenses that may not be covered when he comes home, funds to build a ramp and handicap the home such as widening doors, etc

*Helping provide for the family since his income was a integral part of keeping the family sustained

*Insurance deductible
