Medical Tragedy - Mary Robinson

My name is Kenneth Townsell. My grandmother, Mary Robinson (Momma) unexpectedly passed away on January 26th, 2020. It is hard to write this because Momma passed away while in the care of the clinical team at the hospital that I have been employed at for 12 years.


Momma was kind, sweet, loved everyone and treated everyone as her own child (that’s how she got her nickname). When meeting Momma for the first time she would offer you food, make you feel loved, and would help you with anything you needed. Her goal was to make sure everyone she encountered was happy. She enjoyed the simple things in life, like morning coffee and good breakfast.


Momma was on dialysis. On January 21st, Momma was given a blood transfusion. The blood transfusion was not placed properly. The entire pint of blood she received gathered into her arm. The blood never circulated through or drained from her body correctly. Because of this huge mishap, Momma’s health began to decline.


On January 25, the medical team continued Momma on her regular dialysis schedule. Soon after, Momma’s blood pressure began to plummet. Momma’s blood pressure dropped quickly and the medical team was unable to stabilize her. She passed away the morning of January 26th at 2:40 am.


I am currently trying to raise $40,000. I would like to give Momma a proper funeral, as well as provide living expenses for my mother who was her primary caregiver.


Momma had life insurance through her employer from which she retired. The company cancelled the policy and we are currently petitioning to get the insurance reinstated.


My mother currently suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, diverticulitis, Sjögren’s syndrome and neuropathy She is unable to work and is fighting for disability benefits.  Their only source of income was Momma’s social security. Raising money will give us time to establish long term care for my mother.


My mother is a beautiful soul. She has fed people, taken in and raised the homeless, and just will go out of the way to make you feel special. My mother raised her 4 children, her sisters 2 children after her passing, and at least 10 of our friends growing up.
