Medical Support for AE Smith

Donation protected
For those of you that have ever had the privilege of meeting AE Smith, Production Manager in San Diego, you can attest to how incredible she is as a co-worker, friend and all around person.  For those that haven't, here is a little more context for you:

AE started with ALC (which eventually re-branded to TERIS and is now Inventus) in October of 1999 as a copy and scan operator.  She quickly exceeded all expectations of her managers and within about two years she was running the production show here in the San Diego office.  She has maintained that role now for almost twenty years and does so with grace, fervor and an ear-to-ear smile each and every day.  It's safe to say that AE is the glue that holds this office together and we all look to her for guidance and advice well beyond anything work-related.

Unfortunately, last Saturday (March 10th) AE's partner, Micah, suffered from a very aggressive stroke which has completely shaken their world.  This stroke was the first that Micah had ever experienced and there had been no health-related signs that anything like this might surface so to say that they were shocked is an understatement.  Thanks to AE's quick and decisive actions, they were able to get Micah immediate emergency attention and the doctors credit her with truly saving his life.

That said, the stroke has left Micah with a long road of recovery ahead.  Initially, there were signs that his entire right side of his body would potentially be paralyzed and that he would have to completely re-learn how to speak.  Micah is a very strong-willed individual (much like his better half) and he immediately started to prove the doctors wrong on the physical limitation diagnosis and is progressing very well in his efforts of this kind -- it appears he will make a full physical come back very soon not without exhaustive physical therapy, though.

However, his speech remains negatively impacted and it looks as though he will have to continue to focus on re-learning to speak altogether.

As you might imagine, this has been a challenging time for AE, Micah and their respective families.   Never one to ask for help herself, AE has only missed one day of work since this occurred and continues to show up each and every morning with the same aforementioned smile that has been her calling card for the last twenty years.

Our office is dedicated to helping AE in any way we possibly can and we wanted to extend that beyond our four walls here in San Diego to anyone within Inventus/RPX who may also wish to contribute.  AE and Micah have amassed some very unexpected medical bills and those will continue to pile up throughout this long road to recovery so we felt it would help them out by setting up this GoFundMe and asking our community to assist in any way they can.  Whether it's just a few dollars, please know that AE is already incredibly grateful for the offer to support her through these trying times and does not wish for anyone to feel obligated to help out.

Thank you for your consideration and please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or can think of other avenues that we can take to help AE and Micah get through this.
