Medical Help for HOLLYWOOD

Donation protected
Wednesday June 6th Hollywood started vomiting (a lot).  Within a hour and half time frame I noticed a greasy / oily substance on his fur.  Took him to the bathroom to rinse off.... it was an odd smell.  I had smelled this on and off thru the day and thought the farmer was doing something.

With Hollywood as sick as he was I started checking the house and found that the feliway diffuser was very hot and the liquid was leaking out the top and had formed a puddle on the floor.  Obviously Hollywood laid in this.....and then started to lick himself, trying to clean this off his fur.   This is why he was vomiting. He'd ingested feliway.

I googled to see if there was danger, and found nothing saying it was toxic or that other pets had been injured by this.  Come early morning, Thursday, Hollywood is extremely ill. He actually looked dead.  I had to race him to the Kitty ER for help. He could not wait for his vet to open at 8.

The ER Vet had me call ASPCA Poison Control and talk with them (they needed some code so the vet to vet conversation could happen). First I had to find out the manufacture of the feliway I was using. Apparently there are 3 manufacturers. The ASPCA Poison Control vet commented that she had over 250 reports  of pet being injured by feliway.

Hollywood had burns thru  his mouth. His lips, his nose, his throat, etc.  Unsure on how bad the burns were further thru his system.  He was sent home with meds.  ($227.00)

Things only got worse.  Friday morning I call his vet explaining that Hollywood smells like a dead deer. The report from the ER vet is there and she has us come in.

She tells me he's critical.  The burning has continued. The smell is dead tissue.  His mouth is burned and ulcerated.  He very well could lose his tongue.  But more concerning are his insides that we can not see.

Hollywood is running extremely high fever. He's in a "la-la land" state.

His vet admits him and gets him on antibiotics, fluids and lots of pain meds.  Once comfortable she does Xrays to rule out electrocution...apparently the xray and some test can determine this.

I already knew it was not electrocution because I searched the house high and low both on Wednesday and again Thursday.  The only issue was that over heated diffuser that leaked all over the floor. The same stuff I found on his fur.  He laid in it.....then licked it.

Hollywood, not improving and needing 24 care he is transferred from his vet clinic ($578.20) back to the kitty hospital that had seen him early Thursday.  He needs IV antibiotics, IV pain meds, IV fluids, etc.

On Friday evening, Hollywood is admitted to their ICU, and I had to leave $700.00 to admit him.  (will attach estimate)

The worries are all the internal burning and ulcerations.  He is unable to eat to drink.   Xrays of the esophagus showed "Something" that needs further looking into.

Is it a hole in the esophagus? Is it something lodged there? Is it swelling and damaged tissue?

Even before he can get nutrition the ER vet says he needs to be scoped to determine - is this a hole?   She does not want to be inserting a feeding tube thru his nose and have it feed thru a possible hole into his lungs....

If it's a hole then the feeding tube needs to go directly thru his side to his stomach.

The vet says a lot of unknowns at this time due to internal burning.  She says in a case like this it's a day by day because burns and infection along with other complication happen fast.

The vet has said she suspects his total bill to be anywhere from $12,000.00 to $15,000.00.  That's if everything goes well.  If complication arise then the bill will be even higher.

Hollywood is 9 months old.   He was found in my driveway as a tiny kitten back in October 2017 with his brother. His brother did not survive. Hollywood is the sole survivor of his family. I never saw his feral mama again (in fact days before he showed up in my driveway, I stopped seeing her)

Hollywood has had  to have several surgeries to unblock him.  Seems he is not able to poop.  There is something wrong the mobility of his intestines and he takes meds daily to help him poop..... he will be on these meds for life.

He's a true survivor. The sole survivor.  He's a fighter, but just needs a little help from his friends.

Have always believed that every single $1.00 is a huge help.  It adds up!!
