Donate $5-10 to help treat Jacqlyn's gut paralysis

Donazione protetta
My good friend, Jacqlyn, has been struggling over the past three years to eat.  After travelling to Mexico for medical care to treat chronic Lyme disease, she developed a severe gastrointestinal infection that she has not been able to fully recover from due to lack of care.  The infection has caused a cascade of adverse health problems that need to be treated now.

She has been diagnosed with: gastroparesis (where your stomach stops moving and even drinking sips of  water can be painful and impossible); an intestinal infection that has now caused post-infectious SIBO; and dyssynergia of the intestinal tract, which means her intestinal tract doesn’t move right and so she struggles to eat, absorb nutrients, and eliminate waste. The past three years she has had to have manual therapy twice a week to help move food through her intestines which is incredibly painful and not a long term answer.  She lost significant amounts of weight over the last few years as she lost her ability to eat and eliminate food.

This past year she has undergone three operations to help with these issues and has made a lot of progress towards making the intestinal tract more mobile.  The final step is rehabilitation of the digestive tract to get it moving again, as well as keep treating the GI infection so the cycle doesn’t start over again, as the infection can damage the nerves in the gut and make it stop moving once more.

Her doctors say she needs biofeedback sessions that will retrain her organs to move correctly again.  Unfortunately, the biofeedback sessions are not covered by her insurance company and are approximately $950 a session.  The CMPC Motility Clinic doctors think roughly 12 sessions will be needed in a case this severe.

Jacqlyn also needs to be checked for craniocervical instability, a condition which can compress the brain stem and lead to an array of health issues, including the brain not signaling to the gut correctly.  This can be checked by a special type of MRI machine. The only providers with this type of MRI in the area do not accept insurance and cost $1,250 out of pocket.

To continue to treat the GI infection, Jacqlyn also must continue the expensive IV antibiotics she is on and maintain the port (the medical device through which she receives medicine).

This has been a rough year for Jacqlyn.  She is already disabled due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Ecephalitis and other health issues, all of which came from Lyme disease that went initially undiagnosed and treated.  She has had many challenges to overcome regarding access to consistent care.  She is resourceful and has still managed to rebound time and again, but without much family to rely on, she is forced to ask for assistance from others to get the care she needs.

I will be collecting and distributing the funds for this campaign to help take the stress off of Jacqlyn so she can just focus on getting the treatments she needs to heal.  She has the ability to recover, but it takes medical care.

Jacqlyn is such a smart, strong, vibrant person.  After everything she’s gone through, it’s amazing to me how resilient she truly is.  Right now, so much of her sparkle and capacity is diminished because of the severity of her chronic illnesses.  The worst part is that all of this is entirely treatable, if you have the money and the access to care.

Thank you so much for anything you can contribute, and if you can’t contribute, feel free to share the fundraiser anyway.  We need as much help as possible!  As soon as we have funds, she can start receiving treatment.
