My son Chip (John) Sheehan and his high school sweetheart, Cindy Spalding, have enjoyed 40 years of marriage, three wonderful children and one grandson. JT, Bevin and Bryan have grown into beautiful responsible adults. Tragically, after serving our country as a Marine, Bryan passed away in 2011.
In June 2016, Cindy was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma cancer. She continues bi-monthly treatments and has been unable to work since June.
Chip is self-employed as a builder/carpenter and is the primary support of his family. Chip has recently been diagnosed with Powassan Virus resulting in encephalitis and meningitis and is in a coma. He is undergoing treatment in MGH Neurological ICU and has not yet been responsive to stimulation or activity. Cindy has been by his side daily during the treatment of this potentially life-threatening disease.
Prognosis is unknown, but is guaranteed to include extensive rehabilitation.
Your generosity is deeply appreciated by the whole family and will be a tremendous support with the financial burden encountered during this crisis. At present expenses are immeasurable, and mounting, and the prognosis is still unknown. Your contribution will help alleviate uninsured medical services, extensive rehabilitation costs, and housing and travel expenses.
We are forever grateful for your support as Cindy concentrates her energy on Chip and on preserving her strength that enables her to be by his side.
In closing, of my three sons, Chip is my only remaining son. I plead for any help you may be able to offer.
