Hi, just a note to tell you my story.

I'm not used to asking for help, I've always been self-sufficient but I think I'm in over my head.

I’m 62 yrs old and I have been a medical assistant for the past 25 yrs. 2024 was supposed to be the year that I retired. During the heavy winter of 2023, I was shoveling snow for my elderly neighbor when I tore my rotator cuff in 5 places. It took 5 months for the injury to be truly identified via MRI. It was initially treated as a sprain. I have been living with the pain for 8 months. I am unable to sleep due to pain, but I have managed to work full time. I have recently been scheduled for surgery for Dec. 1. I will be out of work for 6 weeks. Despite working full time, I don't have short-term disability. I depleted my savings recently when I stayed home with my mom during her 9 month hospice. I will not be getting paid for the 6 weeks I will be rehabilitating from this surgery.

I just found out today that my insurance will only cover part of my surgery and I am responsible for the thousands of dollars that they don’t cover, to be paid in advance. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 1st but I have to be able to pay my portion prior to Nov 27th.

Obviously my retirement is being postponed and Christmas has been cancelled while I try to get through this. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
