The last few years of our families lives have been interesting to say the least. It has no doubt been an emotional, devastating and eye opening journey for us.
We are very private people, so not many people know what we've been through. It’s taken a real step of courage to even set up this gofundme project, to be honest. But our family has been affected greatly by toxic mold exposure. Believe it or not, the last 3 homes we lived in had black mold and it wreacked havok on all of our health. Constant pain, headaches, ER visits for starters. In 2016 my health was so bad that I had to have 2 biopsies because my white blood cell count was so low it appeared that I had cancer.
We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on mulitple doctors visits nation wide, loads of medications, therapy visits… it’s been never ending. And not to mention, we lost everything. Furniture, clothes, toys… we had to start over completely. And not only have multiple doctors been playing the guessing game with our health and feeling like we were chasing our tails for years...we felt alone. We had never heard of anyone having to go thru what we have been thru, and quite frankly we felt like everyone thought we were nuts. We all developed serious food allergies and changed our diets drastically. I had to change skincare and makeup lines. Even down to things like changing to hypo-allergenic pillows and sheets. It’s been insane.
Thru it all, my health has been the worst. After years of research and tests, I have developed an auto immune disease that affects everything about me. I eat raw, I have to do coffee enemas (I know that’s weird), sauna and ozone treatments are a few of the things that take the edge off of the constant pain and swelling in my body. There are days I wake up and can hardly walk and take care of my kids. Not to mention we were recently forced to switch to a private health insurance, so most of our medical costs are coming directly out of pocket.
A lot of doctors and community of people who have the same unfortunate setback have recommended moving to dry/hot climates for healing. We live just south of Cleveland Ohio, so we constantly deal with humid and cold temperatures. A perfect environment for moisture and mold to grow. So back in January I decided to visit out west in California to see if the dry climate helped my body heal… and it did. Myself and my children lived away from daddy for 6 weeks to see if this was a move that we should consider be a more permanent one.
After years of consideration, prayer and thought…we have decided to move out to southern California.
However, the silver lining in all of this is that my husband is a filmmaker. So he has been documenting everything for almost 2 years now. We have a trailer for a documentary called Black Mold - The Silent Killer that he is producing and we couldn’t be more excited about it. We have quite a bit of footage to start telling the story with a feature length documentary. We have been thru so much, we feel like it would be a disservice to NOT give back and help inform others. Environmental issues are very real, we have learned first hand. And we strongly feel that this documentary will not only help inform others of the importance of your environment, but bring awareness to people who may be sick and have potential toxic environments in their own lives.
So there it is. We are moving. We are making a documentary. And we would be so appreciative with any financial contribution to support us. Like I said, we have invested thousands over the years trying to figure it all out and beat this thing. So any amount, even just $10, helps us get back on our feet, furthers my medical treatment and also continue research for our documentary.
