Donation protected
Sara has Mysty's kidney (July27)!   Now the hard part starts, getting healthy, and paying the bills (new and old).
Please check the Updates Section for the most recent developments

Note: This GoFundMe is created and managed by a friend of Mysty and Sara. But the sole access to these funds is linked to Mysty's account. You can contact her using the link at the right.

The expenses include :  anti-rejection drugs and prescriptions for both.  high deductible payments and  co-pays, travel and overnight expenses to San Francisco, rent for Sara's apt. in Kansas.  Prescription costs ($600 per month out of pocket for Sara alone) are one of Mysty's biggest concerns.  The bills are going to hit hard in the next few weeks while they're not working...lets take some of that worry off their minds...  There's even more to the story, and we'll add that soon.
Make a donation to help them recover, and spread the word!

The Story:
Sara, age 19,  GOT a a kidney transplant! (Mysty and Sara went home Thurs July 28th.  The kidney is functioning well, and both have great bloodwork.  They've walked their required laps in the hospital to be allowed to be discharged, and Sara is feeling so much better!! Mysty says she looks better than she has in a long time).
Sara’s been seriously struggling with kidney function for about 6 years.  Now Sara gets a second chance, and her goal is to get healthy, get back to college, and become a biomedical researcher.  You can really help!

The great news is that her mom, Mysty , is THE kidney match.   The surgery for both of them is this TUESDAY, July 25th!  The not so great news,  is that both Sara and Mysty will be out of work during recovery, and the out of pocket costs, pharmacy bills (anti-rejection drugs aren't covered), and other expenses they have to pay are huge.  On top of that, they have medical debt from the past 6 years that is already overwhelming.  Sara and Mysty need $45,000 in the next 12 weeks to keep everything afloat, and to pay the current medical bills that will be coming due.

Here’s what happened.  A Medical "fluke", that damaged Sara's kidneys.  Six years ago, at age 13, Sara had a “rash” that wouldn’t go away. She was tired, achy and had these little red marks on her feet that were moving up her legs. A trip to the doctor, led to a trip to ER, which led to a team of specialists and finally to a diagnosis of HSP (Henoch-Schoenlein Purpura). HSP affects a very small number of people, mostly boys, under the age of two. It also usually clears up on its own and doesn’t have any lasting effects.

Sara’s condition was diagnosed at 1t, it was aggressive, and the first outbreak lasted for 8 months. Eventually a team at Children’s Hospital California was able to get the condition under control, but not until her kidneys had been damaged. Sara was not deterred, and went back to school with gusto. She studied hard and decided she’d become a doctor. She finished high school at age 17 with two full years of college credit, all while dealing with failing kidneys.

Sara started college in the fall of 2015 with a double major in biomedical and biochemical engineering. Her kidney condition was managed and she had the care of Children’s Hospital Colorado and a great nephrology team in Fort Collins.

The following January, Mysty got the call mother’s never want to get, “Mom, I haven’t been feeling well, the doctors want to do a biopsy.”  A few days out of classes turned into a month and the first week of March 2016, Sara cried quietly while she un-enrolled from classes and left Colorado State University. She spent her 18th birthday receiving her first round of chemo; an effort to slow down her immune system, which was now attacking her kidneys. Today, Sara is the only known case of a person who’s endured three outbreaks of HSP.

So, for all of Mysty and Sara's friends, and believers, and friends of friends, and small business and large companies she's supported, we need you!   Let’s build a medical fund for Sara  to help Mysty and Sara get thru this surgery and the next few months of recovery without so much financial pain.   We need to raise $45,000 to get Sara and Mysty on the road to recovery, both health wise and financially.  If there are any remaining funds, they will be used to to help pay the past due bills from the past 6 years of treatments.

Sara is an amazing girl of remarkable promise and personal responsibility, and Mysty has always given huge amounts in every community she’s worked in.  It’s time for us to give back.  Please share this with anyone you can, especially in Sara’s and Mysty’s communities.  If we each give what we can, and share this with ten others, we can raise this amount, and get them on their feet.

Mysty and Sara have set up a page to coordinate friends to help them with logistics and meals etc over the next few weeks also. Here's the link; https://my.lotsahelpinghands.com/community/transplant4sara
