Yesterday our beloved dog, Poochie, ran outside as I opened the door for only a second. A neighbor was walking a couple dogs at the time, one of them was a pitbull. This neighbor has many times walked dogs unleashed feeling I guess that they're well trained. The family owns several dogs. I should mention that I've shared a friendly relationship with the guy over 20 years so this is doubly heartbreaking. One of his pitbulls has attacked before so many are wary of this particular neighbor.
The way that the attack occured is as follows. The first night my dog was half dead with 106 fever, going into sepsis, and vomiting up the contents of his stomach, he was in extreme pain & couldnt utter a sound. As we drove home from the emergency hospital which is an hour away, my daughter, in hysterics wrote the first plea on Go Fund Me because we were told upfront this was going to cost in the thousands. As a side note i will mention the home I've been renting on the block is being sold & i have a very tight timelime.. money is an issue especially now
So I feel I need to give a timeline of events on Friday, June 16, 2017. The facts are the same, just told calmer, AGAIN NEVER was there any cursing or threatening or mentioning of names, my daughter is a college graduate but this dog was a gift to her after MY having almost died twice all before 14th birthday, she could have NO siblings & it was a heartache, so this gift was the most important one she'd ever recieved. She adores this dog as much as anyone adores thiers but he sort of became her friends little buddy. He is the sweetest, most loving, disposition anyones ever seen. He poses for pictures, does little tricks, he aims to please.
So at about 2:30 pm my daughter left for work, having forgotten she ordered a salad to be delivered. When the bell rang I thought it was her coming back to wait for it, I was BARELY dressed, and i opened the door a crack, but i have no storm door, and at THIS EXACT MOMENT THE NEIGHBOR WAS WALKING EITHER 2 OR 3 DOGS I HONESTLY DONT RECALL, BUT I VERY DEFINATELY RECALL HIM HOLDING THE HAND OF A 5 or 6 year old child. Without me even SEEING my dog escape the front porch where he ALWAYS GREETS DELIVERY MEN i HEARD THE MOST TERRIFLYING SCREAMS OF PAIN ID EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE. Poochie had seen all the dogs & ran down the driveway where the pitbull who i cant tell you if he was leashed or not, people are saying they're not sure either, because of the many times they are walked unleashed.. Common sense tells me NOONE would walk these animals at that hour of the day freely, with just a leash to put on if they get excited. With this, I look and see my dog being dragged SHAKEN FLUNG BY HIS BACK I SAW BLOOD FLYING. THE OWNER WAS TERRIFIED AS WELL, HE HAS A LITTLE GIRL WITH HIM!! BUT HE DIDNT YELL AT THE PIT OR DO ANYTHING TO HELP! I KNOW THIS OWNERS HEART WAS IN HIS MOUTH AS WELL. BECAUSE THIS PIT WAS TRYING TO PULL HIM APART FROM LIMB TO LIMB, HE EVEN BIT THRU HIS HEAD!! NEIGHBORS CAME FROM EVERYWEHRE, KICKING THE PIT HITTING THE PIT SOME EVEN PUTTING THEIR OWN HANDS ON THE PITS HEAD BUT HE WOUDNT LET GO.
I was hitting him with my cane (I have two bad knees) as hard as I could and he didnt even FEEL it. MY ONE NEIGHBOR WAS DETERMINED NOT FEARING FOR HIS OWN SAFETY AT ALL, I WAS AFRAID THIS MAN WOULD BREAK HIS FOOT, DRESSED IN A SUIT, HE SMASHED HIM WITH THE BACK OF HIS DRESS SHOE NOT THE POINT WHICH I KNOW REALLY HELPED. BUT THE ATTACK CONTINUED. FINALLY A GOOD SAMARITAN SHOWED UP WITH LARGE BLACK SUV AND ASKED IF HE SHOULD SHOOT THE GUN AND THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME THE DOG OWNER LOOKED AT ME PLEADINGLY WITH TEARS INHIS EYES AND SAID "PLEASE NO .... DONT KILL HIM. I BEG YOU DONT KILL HIM " WAS HE KIDDING??? HE STOOD THERE NOT DOING A THING TO HELP & PLEADING FOR OWN HIS DAUGHGTERS DOG YET IT WAS KILLING MINE, ASKING FOR MERCY!!
MY OWN FATHER IS RETIRED NYPD, I COULDNT TAKE MY EYES OFF THE GUN KNOWING IT WOULD END THE WHOLE THING. EVERYTHING IN ME WANTED TO SCREAM ' KILL HIM' ....BUT I COULDNT. EVERY STORY ID HEARD OVER MY DADS CAREER AS A COP WAS FLOODING THRU ME, ' I FELT LIKE THE GUN WOULD KILL MY DOG AS WELL, OR RICOCHET OFF THAT HARD HEAD AND INTO SOMEONES LEG OR THE WORST, THE LITTLE GIRL LEFT WITH THE MEMORY OF A GUN SHOT DOG AND BLOOD ALL OVER HER, THAT IS HOW CLOSE SHE WAS..... WITH SHAME I SAID "NO DONT SHOOT HIM.... "THE GUY LOOKED UNDERSTANDING I WAS SO DEFEATED AS THE ATTACK CONTINUED AND MY DOGS SKIN WAS BIENG RIPPED OFF OF HIM. THEN SUDDENLY THE MAN TOOK OUT A RED CAN OF IDK WHAT AND HE WENT RIGHT INTHE PITS FACE AND SPRAYED THE CRAP OUT OF HIM, EYES MOUTH, NOSE , IT WAS FOAMY AND WITH THIS HIM AND THE OTHER NEIGHBOR STARTED KICKING HARDER, FOR ONE SPLIT SECONT THE PIT LET GO AND MY STRONG NEIGHBOR GRABBED HIM, MY DOG HOBBLE SOMEWHERE WE COULDBT EVEN IMAGAINE HOW, probably instinct and shocked.
He had multiple bite wounds through out his body, which are requiring surgeries that are costing up to thousands of dollars. he was spetic that night with 106 fever, and they worked on him throughtout the night to save him..The vets were very concerned, they pulled no punched they said he could very well die.. His vessels were pulled away from his skin. His thorax was a millimeter from being crushed, his skin turn necrotic, meaning it was dead. Everything was wrong. The owners of the pitbull are refusing to take responsibility and pay for what their dog did. Whats more the daughter who is the real owner with her husband was beligerant and nasty and called the cops on ME because i called her to ask her to please help us It took 7 different people and about 20 minutes to finally get this pit to let my 16 lb dog go, and I spared the pitbull's life!!! There was a child standing there with the owner and I did not want her to be traumatized. My Poochie did not deserve this, he was dragged several feet, shaken like a ragdoll and neither did my family. I used ALL of my care credit and the very last dime I had to pay for him to stay over night. . He is going to need multiple surgeries and rehabilitation for months. I just want to get him through this week. They havent even let me see him because of the state he is in. They are keeping drains hoping the infections will heal. He is on two different types of antibiotics. My daughter, my husband, and I have been in a complete state of distress since this happened. Any little bit would be very appreciated by our entire family. My original goal was only $4,000, but, I did not realize how expensive this would all be. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for any help. I wish that money wasnt such a huge issue but it is. My office closed up 2 years ago, and my having such issues as being sick myself has put me in a position of not working, until i move and can address my knee replacement. I receive no disability, ive never asked anyone for anything ever before. God Bless you all <3
