Our dear friend Alexis has been struggling with getting the proper diagnosis for her deteriorating eye condition for several years now and is in danger of going blind.
At this point they have identified Macular Edema, Birdshot Syndrome and Glaucoma. Now they want to treat her with 3 years of heavily monitored chemo because they think the Edema is caused by an unknown autoimmune disease.
She has approx $20,000 in medical bills so far that's not covered by insurance, she's in danger of losing her home and she's been unable to secure disability eventhough she's had a lawyer working on it for over a year. She has no income as she is unable to work or even drive.
Here's what she shared with me.
I've been tested for everything under the sun, so we've got no idea what disease it could be!!
Literally, every day my eyes change... no glasses or contacts could ever work again. If they don't get the Edema under control... I will go blind permanently.
I cannot take steroids anymore... spent 6 years going that route & they caused the Glaucoma. Only other route is chemo.
I finally fired my piece of crap Disability attorney. Wasted a year there. New attorney ready to rock but all of these new docs & legal folks are in Wilmington, an hour away.
I am down to pennies... thought my house would sell but there's a cloud on the title I can't clear up. As you can tell, I'm up against a wall.
I've got no car or driver licenses anymore because I've been deemed Legally Blind. Getting anywhere is so hard in this small town with no public transport or sidewalks.
I don't know what else to do at this point. I need help!
