Medical Fragile Children Needs

Donation protected

Many of you have followed my FB posts about 2 medically fragile children I am sub-caregiver for, and that they are the foster children of my dear friend Brandy. Brandy is a single woman with grown children of her own and became
involved with foster care here in Michigan a
couple of years ago. She has two degrees, one
in psychology and the other in organizational management, but her heart and experience is working with the health and welfare of
children.

Brandy has a 2016 Toyota Camry that she had before becoming a foster mom for medical
fragile children which brings me to the issue at hand. Although her car is comfortable, it is too small and too low for all the equipment we
carry for both kids back and forth to the
multiple appointments monthly let alone
loading these medical fragile children into
their medical car seats. We cannot even put
both of their medical strollers in the trunk so Brandy ends up carrying the little girl with her oxygen, her suction machine, and her pulse ox monitor all hanging off of Brandy’s shoulders. Needless to say there is walking involved after arriving at the medical buildings.

The precious little guy who will be 5 in
January weighs 51 pounds and is 3 1/2 feet
long. Brandy has to physically pick him up out of his stroller and step around to place him
into his car seat which is no easy feat with a
child his size. The 3 year old sweet girl is only
25 pounds but she moves actively from the
waist up which again makes it difficult to get
her out of her stroller into her car seat let
alone having to carry her and her equipment
on the shoulders. Moving them both into their car seats in a vehicle trying to maneuver the
lower roof and keep from bumping their heads is a chore of its own.

My interest in this fundraiser is to support the safety and welfare of these children. What
truly is needed is a vehicle with a lift so we can leave the children in their strollers, wheel
them onto a lift and into the vehicle without
Brandy having to physically lift them every
move. I have had both hips replaced and have RA and psoriatic arthritis which prevents me
from lifting either of the kids so I am no help in transitioning. A visit for doctor appointments
takes both of us going so I can drive and
Brandy can do the suctioning because both
children have trachs and excess secretions.
Taking them for any appointment requires
Brandy to lift them in and out of the car a minimum of 4 times per child. That does not
include all the lifting at home getting them
ready and into their strollers to go to the car,
or lifting them on to exam tables and then
back into their strollers. These babes most
definitely will continue to grow and become
heavier which not only could harm Brandy
physically, but also puts the children at risk
when lifting them. A vehicle with a lift will help to increase their safety overall.

A vehicle with a lift is not cheap, plain and
simple. Brandy has been talking with
dealerships who work with the companies
who install medical devices and the prices all
seem to run $60,000 to $75,000. She has also applied to charitable organizations for help to no avail. Benefits of those organizations are
considered for biological children, not foster
children. Trading in her car does not even
come close to getting her into an affordable
payment.

I am asking for your prayerful support for
these sweet children who we have the
privilege of caring for. I also ask for your
prayers of support for Brandy as a single
foster mother who truly loves these children
and treats them and advocates for them as if
they were her own.

So I realize this is not a fundraiser I usually do, my many fundraisers have always been for
missions, but these sweet children and Brandy have become my mission as I try to help her
provide these medically fragile children with
the best life possible.

I ask from my heart for you to prayerfully
consider making a donation. No amount is too small and will be used toward the purchase of a vehicle with a lift.

Thank you all so much!

Blessings,

Del
