Medical Expenses for Wren Diakogiannis

Wren is the child of Lauren and Austin Diakogiannis. Wren has a big brother Everett who is 2 years old.
My name is Chelsea Ray and I have created this GoFundMe to help with the living and medical expenses related to Wrens recent medical issues. No parent should ever have to worry about the things that Lauren and Austin have had to deal with in the last 3 weeks. Lauren and Austin would never ask for a dime, because they never want to be anyone else’s burden. But, as a community I know we could help this family. Shortly after Wrens birth, the doctors realized he had some tachypnea. Tachypnea is basically rapid breathing. Doctors did many tests and were unable to figure out the cause. They monitored him for several days, but there was no improvement. Due to the rapid breathing they put in a feeding tube with fear that drinking normally, he may aspirate.
On November 14th, the doctors in Tifton decided that Wren would be best treated at the Macon hospital, and he was transferred. Upon arrival, they realized that he had “silent aspiration”. Basically, every liquid that he tried to ingest he aspirated on it. Sothe feeding tube stayed, and a speech therapist began treating the aspirations.
On November 22nd. Things were looking up, and the doctors were even talking about discharge. But they got the results back from his repeat echo and they found something. He has what is called coarctation of the aorta. Doctors knew then, that he had to go to Egleston in Atlanta to have surgery to correct this. Hopefully once surgery was completed, his breathing would be regulated.
On November 23rd, Wren was sent to Atlanta ahead of schedule, just because they wanted him up here to monitor him more closely. Surgery was planned for first thing on the 25th at 7am.
Surgery Day! They made an incision in his armpit to work on his aorta, surgery lasted about 2 hours. Everything went well, and there were no complications. THANK GOD! Post surgery he was doing FANTASTIC, they were monitoring him closely, they removed him from the ventilator post surgery as planned because he was doing so well. The only thing occurred was a blood transfusion post surgery to-rebuild his blood counts. But doctors expected this before surgery. He still had the feeding tube, and chest tube for chest drainage.
November 26th, this evening, they are putting the breathing tube back in him. He’s been struggling to breathe since about 2:30pm and they have tried different things to help him, but they aren’t working so they are putting it back in and they aren’t sure about why or how long. They are suspecting it’s viral but are waiting on cultures to come back.
When the cultures came back, they found out that he now has rhinovirus and will be moved to a private room because it is highly contagious with kids. In adults it is just a cold. Unfortunately doctors don’t know where or how he got it. He will stay on the vent until he is over it which could take a week or so.
