Medical Expenses for Jocelyn and Josiah Alcázar

Hi, my name is Anthony Alcázar. On July 15, 2022, My two oldest children, Josiah (20) and Jocelyn (18), were involved in a significant auto accident. Both were transported to the local hospital via ambulance. Jocelyn was thankfully released a few hours later with only minor bumps and bruises. Josiah, however, had what doctors described as a devastating brain injury. He is currently in the Neuro ICU, and we are not sure yet if he will make it. Doctors working on him have stated that if he were to survive, he would most likely be bed-bound for the rest of his life. We all know that the only reason he survived long enough for paramedics to help is because Jocelyn jumped into action immediately after the accident. She was able to free him from his seatbelt and cover his head wound, controlling the bleeding and ensuring he was breathing.

Neither Jocelyn nor Josiah have insurance. We found out in November that my wife and I now made to much for CHIP and were told by our great healthcare.gov that coverage would cost more than our mortgage. I have insurance through work but the enrollment period does not open again until October. We didn't have them on my insurance because the cost was to great and up until last November, they were covered. Jocelyn's 4 hours in the ER is going to cost us approximately $81,000. We are hoping to fundraise enough to cover at least her expenses while we continue work on emergency medicaid and possibly social security for Josiah.
