Medical expenses for Jack Green

On Saturday September 1st, my husband, Jack Green, was in a head on collision on his way to work near Orla, Texas.

My kids and I were woke up by 2 officers knocking on our door to tell us he had been in an accident. Just about 4 days before this, our 7 year old had a bad dream that 2 cops came to our house and told us her dad had died!

It took over an hour before an officer arrived on the scene of the wreck because apparently they could not find the accident. It took 3 hours before EMS arrived because the closest EMS would not cross the county line. The EMS that responded came from 65 miles away. They had to use jaws of life to cut him out of the vehicle. The parking break was struck in his leg and the dash and motor were in his lap. He was life flighted to Odessa medical center. From there, he was life flighted to University Medical Center in Lubbock.

He had an open fracture on his left leg that damaged the artery that pumps blood to his foot. The foot was cold and they couldn't find a pulse. He had surgery that Saturday night on that leg. They put on a fixator to hold the bones in place. There's 2 bones broken and both are missing pieces of bone. They also put in a vacuum pump to pump out anything that would cause infection. At that time, they also put a vacuum pump in his left arm below his elbow where he has a pretty nasty cut. He will have to have another surgery on his left leg and at that time they will also close up his arm.

Tuesday, the 4th, he had surgery on his left hip to put in plates and screws. There were multiple breaks at the hip socket. He had to be on his chest/ stomach for the surgery. He went back at 9:30 am and came out about 6 PM. Because of his position and the length of the surgery, he has swelling in his face, chest, etc. For this reason, they left him intubated after surgery just as a precaution. The plan was to remove the tube today. His lungs have some "gunk" and fluid so they want to give his lungs some time to heal before removing the tube. They are keeping him sedated and intubated for now. They want to give him some breathing treatments and suck some of the gunk out of his lungs before removing the tube.

They are saying he won't be able to walk for about 3 months. He was the sole provider for our family. We were just getting back on our feet from him having a brain tumor removed about 2 years ago. We have a long road to recovery ahead of us. With 2 young children and having to care for my husband, I'm not sure how I will be able to work at this time. There are going to be ongoing medical expenses for therapy and equipment even after the hospital.

Please share and continue praying for a smooth, speedy recovery.
