Medical Expenses for Ethan Thompson

Ethan Thompson is a 17-year old senior at Edison High School in Huntington Beach. Ethan is a loyal friend, sassy brother to his two sisters, Brooke and Chelsea, and loving son to his parents, Deanne and Scott. He adores being an uncle to his niece, Scarlett, and nephew, Nicholas (pictured). Ethan played football, track and field, and wrestling throughout his first three years at Edison and enjoys fishing and being outdoors with his friends. An attentive and engaged student, Ethan has close relationships with his teachers and keeps up good grades. Ethan also works at Pizza Bakery in Newport Beach and loves his job. He has been accepted to several four-year universities for next fall with the intention of being surrounded by his passion for the outdoors.
On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, Ethan came home from school and feeling it was his only option, tragically attempted to take his own life. Being surrounded by love and support, this attempt, to his family, friends, and teachers, was sudden and unexpected. Ethan never outwardly expressed his internal struggles, as anyone who knows Ethan knows him as a goofy, polite, and driven young man. After a concerned friend found Ethan in his home, he was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was given a less than 1% chance of survival. After undergoing two surgeries, the Doctors' only explanation for why Ethan made it through the night and to today is that he now has the will to live. Ethan suffers from the loss of one lung, a shattered diaphragm, and liver damage. At this point, the biggest concern for his Doctors are infection and the unknown extent of his internal injuries, as only time will tell. Ethan has now spent 3 days in the ICU, but has a long road of recovery ahead of him consisting of several more weeks in the ICU and several more months to follow of in-patient therapy and rehabilitation.
The Thompson family is in good spirits and is extremely grateful that Ethan is still alive today. The Thompsons are already moved and thankful for the outpouring of love, support, thoughts and prayers from the community for Ethan. However, with the extent of his injuries and anticipated recovery, medical expenses will only continue to rise.
