Medical Expenses for Dave Bignell

Donation protected
A lot of you may know David and Thelma Bignell whom I call mom and dad, and know that they are always there to help others in a time of need. They always hold their door open and help as much as they can when they can. What some of you may not know is they are in need of some help at this point in their lives.

To give a little back story on what’s been happening I’ll take you all back to just over a year ago. In November 2016 David was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia in his left lung. He was in the hospital a few days when they found out he had empyema (an infection in the lungs) which required surgery. He was transferred to McLaren in flint where they had to make a 12in incision on his back, crack his ribs and go in and scrape the lung cavity to remove all infection, which left David with severe nerve damage. The family was informed that his surgery would take a year for healing.

David started his healing process from this surgery but he was still not “healing” like he should have been. There were other tests being done and that’s when they found out that David has Multiple Myeloma, which is an incurable form or bone cancer. You can understand how much this has impacted the family and how hard this has been for David to take into consideration when he’s always been so healthy and he went into the hospital for something as simple as pneumonia.

Dave was able to be home and start his recovering process from his lung surgery and start treatment for his cancer. He was started on a medication just to keep his cancer numbers where they were, like stated before this is a type of cancer that cannot be cured. He was on this medication for a few months and things seemed to be looking up. David was healing and getting better as the days came and went. One day David was sitting inside with his wife and he said he didn’t feel well he then went into cardiac arrest. CPR had to be performed which re-injured his ribs that were effected during his lungs surgery and he was back in the hospital. At this time he found out that he had a rare form of epilepsy that causes cardiac arrest. But again he was discharged and able to come home to rest and heal from everything.

Here comes summer 2017, Dave is finally getting up as moving around on his own, he was outside one day and had an accident and ended up breaking his back. Back to the hospital he goes and this time it’s a little more tricky then before.

Dave was in the hospital for a little while and was able to come home with wearing a back brace at all times. Again David started his healing process and things started to look up, he was feeling better. They started him on a new type of cancer medication and he’s currently on that medication.

As you can imagine  Dave and Thelma are over their heads in medical bills. And the bills just keep piling up. Family is helping as much as they can. But we still cant stay on top of these bills that just keep coming.

Things started to seem “normal” again but not for long.
Just last week David was taken back to the hospital. He wasn’t feeling well for days. He went in and was septic meaning he had an infection in his blood. They did all their routine tests and found he now had pneumonia in his right lung. They started to treat him for that when they noticed he had a lot to fluid on his heart. They had to take him in for heart surgery to remove the fluid off the heart. He had a drainage tube out his chest to let the fluid come off.
As you can imagine this is going to add a very big chunk to the already piling up medical bills and we as a family need help. We can’t keep up with these bills as hard as they are trying to. Dave isn’t finished with his chemo yet and that is just going to keep piling up these bills as he is trying to heal once again. We hate to ask for help, we have tried our best to stay on top of these bills our self. As a family we have been all chipping away at them but to no avail because they just keep adding up. Any and everything will help. I know that everyone has there own things going on just please know that if you can help in any way we appericate it more then you will ever know.

Also if anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out to me and I can try and answer any and all questions. If you have reached out and gotten no responce please know that we are recieving all love, prayers and thoughts but we are trying to keep out lives on track as much as we can and we are trying to get back with everyone.

Thank you all so much!
