Medical Expenses for Brandy

Donation protected
Brandy has been battling various diseases over the last few years. Back in June of 2015, Brandy ended up in the emergency room in Lubbock, TX after her vision blacking out. The doctors ended up putting her in ICU and put in a VP shunt in her brain. She had spinal fluid building up in her head. After surgery Dr. Smith informed us that she was at the most 4 days away from death if she hadn’t had the surgery. The official diagnosis was pseudotumor cerebri. Dr. Smith said that he felt like her weight had a lot to do with the pseudotumor cerebri and referred her to a bariatric surgeon. She dropped over 200 lbs and was doing great. However, the doctors then found that Brandy had cervical cancer. So after biopsies and a LEEP, the doctor performed a  hysterectomy. Shortly afterwards Brandy ended up back in the hospital, her intestines never woke up after her hysterectomy. So at this point she has to take medication to even be able to go to the bathroom. Over the last year the crippling migraines and stiff neck and worsening vision has all came back with a vengeance. Brandy ended up in the hospital in Amarillo where the neurosurgeon discovered that the VP shunt in her head had a recall on it and was no longer working correctly. So after months of migraines and nausea and pressure on her eyes she finally has an answer to her problems. The neurosurgeon does a shunt revision and it is now working well. However, the migraines and the nausea are stilll persistent. She has lost all peripheral vision and much of her central vision. I took her to Oklahoma City to a specialist, and he said that her optic nerves are too damaged and that she will never regain the lost vision. He does however want her to see him 3-4 times a year so that he can keep an eye on the optic nerves and make sure that the swelling doesn’t return. There is a medication that her neurosurgeon and neurologist want her to try, but it is over $2000 out of pocket for a 6 week regimen. The company that Brandy works for has been great, and she has been on short term disability. But this only pays her 60% of her salary, if I remember correctly. That is amazing! But it simply isn’t enough to keep up with all of her medical expenses and medications, as well as the regular household expenses. If you can help, please do.
