Medical Expenses for Anita Besler

As some of you may know, on November 16th, 2020, Anita experienced a severe medical event.  She was taken by ambulance to Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital (Cedar Rapids). She was diagnosed as having a kidney infection, bacterial meningitis, and endocarditis.  This caused her body to become septic.  It was also discovered that she had a stroke.  She spent the following two weeks in a medically induced coma on a ventilator receiving high doses of antibiotics.  After two weeks she was able to come off the ventilator. She spent another three weeks in St. Luke’s having various tests and treatments while trying to regain her strength in order to have a couple of surgeries.  On Monday December 21st, 2020, Anita, was transferred to the Mayo Clinic St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.  They assessed her needs immediately.  On Friday December 25th, 2020, Anita had open heart surgery.  They replaced her aortic valve with a mechanical one and repaired her mitral valve.  She came through the surgery and is progressing well.  In the coming weeks she will need to have surgery to partially amputate her left foot.  We appreciate all the prayers, gifts and help that family and friends have provided over the last 6 weeks.  We are starting this go fund me to help Anita, Mac, Avary and Emery with any medical bills, travel and miscellaneous expenses related to Anita’s condition. -Linda Windschitl, Anita’s youngest sister
